Meet Tara – our new Travel Blogger

Earlier this year, we ran a competition to find our first ever travel blogger to share their thoughts, views, comments, images and videos on a fabulous three-week journey across Europe!

We had a fantastic response to the competition, with some amazing entries – but unfortunately, there could only be one winner and the lucky blogger-to-be is 20-year-old Tara O’Connell (pictured above, the one in the stripey top), who hails from Birmingham.

Read on to find out more about Tara and what stunning European destinations she will be visiting on her travels – and don’t forget you can follow every step of Tara’s trip on our Facebook, Twitter and blog!

A little bit about Tara, by Tara!

““Hi! My name is Tara, and I’m a Broadcast Journalism student at MediaCityUK in Greater Manchester. After growing up in Birmingham, I moved away two years ago and made Manchester my home. I adore the vibrancy of the city life here, there’s nowhere else quite like it!

“At college I studied Creative Media Production at an academy in Birmingham, where I worked in Malta for a few weeks on a tourism advert. That’s when I got the travel bug, as it was an amazing experience to work and live somewhere new and beautiful.

“I have always been itching to travel and see the world. I feel that experiencing new cultures and ways of life is an incredible thing to do. I am currently in Nepal, I’ve been here for three months.

“I decided to volunteer as I wanted to throw myself out of my comfort zone and try something I’ve never done before. Being here has made me appreciate how diverse the world is and makes me want to continue travelling, immersing myself into other ways of life.”

The Big Interrail Trip

Tara will be hitting the Interrail trail in September with her boyfriend, (that’s him on the underground bunker tour in Berlin, camera in hand!).

This trip will be Tara and Jack’s second time Interrailing – which is an adventure they highly recommend! Last summer they travelled across Europe with the two-week City Slickers package, visiting the iconic cities of Rome, Venice, Budapest, Prague and Berlin.

And Tara’s top city? “If I had to choose, I would say Budapest was my favourite destination. We zipped around on Segways and I adored how the city was like a mix of Rome and New York.

“We also visited the infamous thermal baths followed by a really cool ruins bar called ‘Szimpla Kert’. I always advise friends heading to Budapest to drop in and try one of their cocktails!”

This time, Tara and Jack will be taking a slightly different route, beginning with three nights in glorious Dubrovnik. After exploring Dubrovnik, the Pearl of the Adriatic, they will be off to Split and Hvar before jumping on the overnight ferry to Italy and visiting Florence, La Spezia, Milan, Nice and Paris before heading back home to London.

“We chose the destinations this time round as they’re all places we have always dreamed of visiting,” explained Tara.

“I am ecstatic that we will experience them this year! I am particularly excited to visit Italy’s Cinque Terre, where we will be having a day out in La Spezia. It’s been on my bucket list for a long time and from the pictures it looks breathtaking!

“I also can’t wait to visit the island of Lokrum in Croatia and the Uffizi gallery in Florence. All I can say is that I am unbelievably excited for the adventure that awaits me!”

Fair to say, we are pretty excited here at Interrailing Packages too and look forward to seeing all the amazing content Tara and Jack create as they travel – and of course, perhaps giving the couple the odd recommendation or challenge along the way too. Watch this space folks 😉
